Upspace
Last updated 28 August 2026
Upspace is a place to follow creators, do what they post, and see how you show up over time. This policy explains what we collect while you do that, why, and what you can do about it.
Upspace is operated by Squad Technologies LLC, a limited liability company registered in Pennsylvania, United States, at 213 Dylan Lane, Phoenixville, PA 19460. In this policy, "Upspace", "we", "us" and "our" mean Squad Technologies LLC. "You" means anyone who uses the Upspace app or website.
For anything in this policy, including a request to see or delete your data, write to shaun@upspace.team. We are the controller of the personal data described here.
Everything below is collected because a feature needs it. Nothing here is collected to profile you for advertising.
Your email address, which is also how you sign in — we email you a link rather than storing a password. Your display name, and whatever you choose to add: a bio, a profile photo, a link. When you join we ask what you want to get out of Upspace; your answer shapes what we show you.
Posts, Series, Cellys, comments, messages you send, and the photos and videos in them. Which activities you complete, which creators you follow, who follows you, and the signals built out of that — your Upscore, streak, salutes and rank.
If you subscribe, the purchase happens through Apple or Google. We receive a record that your subscription is active and when it renews or lapses, through RevenueCat. We never see or store your card details. If you earn money as a creator, payouts run through Stripe, which collects the identity and bank details it needs to pay you; those go to Stripe, not to us.
Only if you turn it on: your daily step count, read from Apple Health. See Apple Health and step data below.
Only if you turn it on: a daily score from 0 to 100 describing how much of your day you spent away from your screen. See Screen Time data below — this one has an important limit.
A push notification token, so we can send the notifications you've allowed. Your app version, device model and operating system version. If the app crashes or errors, a diagnostic report that may include what you were doing at the time.
Upspace has an optional feature, the Step Score, that shows your daily steps against a 10,000 step goal and lets you compare with friends. It works only if you connect Apple Health and grant permission; if you never do, none of this applies to you.
Upspace has a second optional feature, Screens Away, which shows how much of your day you spent off your phone. It uses Apple's Screen Time API, and it works differently from everything else in this policy.
Your Screen Time usage never leaves your device. How long you spent on your phone, which apps you opened, which categories they fall into — all of it is measured on your device by iOS and stays there. It is never transmitted to us, and we could not read it if we wanted to.
What reaches our servers is a single number for each finished day: a score from 0 to 100. Not minutes, not app names, not categories. This is both our own design and a requirement of Apple's Developer Program License Agreement, which prohibits Screen Time information from leaving the device.
That score is stored against your account, shown to you, and shown to your friends — again, only members you follow who follow you back — on a leaderboard. In this version of the app, Upspace does not block, shield or restrict any app on your phone. You can withdraw Screen Time permission at any time in the iOS Settings app.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We use the following providers to run Upspace. Each one processes data only to provide its service to us.

|---|---|
| Convex and MongoDB Atlas | Store the app's data and run its backend |
| Cloudinary | Hosts and delivers photos and videos |
| RevenueCat | Tracks subscription status from Apple and Google |
| Stripe | Pays creators, and collects the details required to do so |
| Postmark | Sends sign-in links and account email |
| Expo | Delivers push notifications and app updates |
| Sentry | Collects crash and error reports |
| OpenAI | Turns text into numerical embeddings for search and recommendations. Content is not used to train their models. |

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to enforce our Terms of Service, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a merger or acquisition — in which case we will say so before your data moves.
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account we delete your personal data, including your steps and your Screen Time scores, except where we have to keep something longer — payment records for tax and accounting, for instance, or material we need to resolve a dispute. Backups are cycled out on a rolling basis.
Upspace is for people aged 13 and over, and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have, we delete the account and its data. If you believe a child under 13 is using Upspace, email shaun@upspace.team and we will act on it.
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest with our infrastructure providers. Access to production data is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise — but if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
Upspace is operated from the United States, and your data is stored and processed there. If you use Upspace from the EEA, the UK or elsewhere, your data is transferred to the United States under the Standard Contractual Clauses or another approved safeguard.
If you live in California, the CCPA as amended by the CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to get a copy of it, to correct it, and to have it deleted. Exercising any of these will never get you worse service.
In the last 12 months we have collected these categories: identifiers (email, account id); customer records (name); commercial information (subscription status); internet activity (in-app activity); health and fitness information (step count, if you connected Apple Health); and other data (your Screens Away score). We collect them for the purposes described above.
We have not sold or shared personal information in the last 12 months, and we do not sell or share the personal information of anyone we know to be under 16. To make a request, email shaun@upspace.team; we will verify it against the email on your account.
If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, export, and object to or restrict our use of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time — withdrawing it doesn't undo what we did while it was given. The legal bases we rely on are in the table above. You may complain to your local data protection authority; we'd rather you emailed us first, at shaun@upspace.team.
When we change how we handle your data, we update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant — new categories of data, a new purpose — we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
